First Alert Weather Day: Flood watch issued for islands of Maui, Hawaii starting Monday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Your First Alert Weather Team has declared First Alert Weather Days Monday and Tuesday for the islands of Maui and Hawaii.
A flood watch has been issued for those island starting late Sunday night through Tuesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu said the flood watch will be in effect from 4 a.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
A flood watch means that conditions will be present that could produce flash flooding. Low-lying areas and roadways prone to flooding may be closed in heavy rain duye to runoff.
Rapid runoff could also cause property damage in more populated areas.
A plume of deep tropical moisture will be ushered in by a trough to the south of the state. This will combine with an upper-level disturbance to bring heavy showers and the potential for isolated thunderstorms.
The threat for heavy rain will be highest along the windward portions of the islands.
